ATHENS MILD INTERVENTIONS, GREECE (2001)
OPERATIONAL PLANNING FOR THE PROGRAMME MILD INTERVENTIONS FOR THE IMPROVEMENT OF THE FUNCTIONALITY AND IMAGE OF THE CITY OF ATHENS
CLIENT: UNIFICATION OF THE ARCHAEOLOGICAL SITES OF ATHENS S.A. (EAXA SA), 2001

In March of 2001, EAXA awarded the preparation of the Business Programme Mild Interventions for the improvement of the function and the image of the City of Athens, in order to obtain an action tool for the remodelling and historical recovery of the centre of Athens. The preparation of the Programme was completed within 2001.
The aims of the mild intervention programme were the following:

  1. the creation of awareness among the very users of the city, regarding the quality of the urban environment;
  2. the acceptance and active participation of the residents and the businesses to the upgrading works;
  3. the reinforcing and preservation of the residential use at the centre, along with other uses;
  4. protection and preservation of traditional professions at the centre;
  5. long-term organisation aiming at the creation of a positive public profile for EAXA SA, its mission and its activity, regardless of the milestone of the Olympic Games. The main concern of the proposed actions of the programme was ensuring :
  • prerequisites for the creation of a permanent infrastructure aiming at the maintenance and management of the urban environment, along with the gradual completion of upgrading works, with the participation of the Municipality of Athens and the citizens; and
  • continuous operation of EAXA SA for the planning and the implementation of improvements to the urban web of Athens, including the extension of its activity to other historical cities of Greece, so as to promote the undertaking of corresponding ventures in these cities as well.
