COMPLEX OF CENTRAL LIBRARY, CONFERENCE CENTRE AND INSTALLATIONS OF LIBRARY SCIENCE DEPARTMENT, 1999

The Library Science Department
The Central Library
A Conference Centre
Entrances – Exhibition areas and
The new building complex which will shelter all of the 100,000 volumes and periodicals, is provisioned to be built on an area within the A.T.E.I. facilities, and it will have an overall surface area of 12,100 sq.m.
The basic principles that governed the design were:
the establishment of a modern building which will project the scientific activity of the A.T.E.I. and at the same time will serve as the cultural centre of the greater area,
the organisation of a modern Library which will cover the entire span of the educational and research work of the T.E.I., and which will respond to the continuously growing demands for organisation, filing, updating and support of the variety of its material,
the readability and clear distinction of the partial functions sheltered in the building (Library, Conference Centre, Library Science Department),
the establishment of distinct zones, in order to clearly define and locate the partial functional units,
the uninterrupted use of the building, at all levels, by people with special needs,
the bio-climatic approach to the shell, so that the building combines energy effectiveness and sun protection and its location contributes to an improved aesthetic relationship with the surroundings from a visual perspective.
