The Simonopetra Monastery, a monastic community of some 70 or so monks, housed in one of the most striking monastic building complexes on the Holy Mountain, under the pressure of immediate needs, but at the same time with exceptional sensitivity over any intervention which may be required, commissioned the above project, which included:
the recording of the existing situation, a listing of immediate needs, the laying down of a general framework within which the Monastery can develop, and the proposal of arrangements and interventions to satisfy these needs.
The project approached is subject with great caution and respect for the sui generis nature of the place. It was drawn up in close collaboration with the monastic community.
The construction was completed in 1996.
